EVE: The ways of space

I haven’t been playing much Eve the past week. Real life has taken precedence over games and mostly I’ve just been an undercover forum warrior while at work. Shh, don’t tell the boss!

Eve forums are a really lively community and the forum division led me to think about the ways I play the game and what makes Eve so much fun for me.

EVE: Adrift

The last week has been hard on me. I haven’t been getting any real sleep due to jet lag and the kids getting the flu. Furthermore my father has gotten seriously ill which has been very disconcerting to me. Real life and daily routine seems very disconnected from my days now.

I still sit at my computer in the evening and play games. They are a sort of air hole for me, letting me forget my worries for a while. Focusing on the tasks in a game really allows me to get some distance and Eve in particular forms an environment which simply does not contain the real life issues. I’m especially thankful for the friendly people at the exploration channel. Chatting with you takes a load off my mind.

In the past few days my forays have brought me against the Sansha menace and into another wormhole.

EVE: I’m back!

Posted in games on November 4th, 2009 by Roblob – Be the first to comment

Hi again! My month long family vacation in the US is over and I’m now getting back to normal life. It certainly was an interesting month with lots to see and experience. We drove down from Seattle to San Diego taking detours to interesting locations along the way.

A month living in hotels is somewhat taxing and I didn’t really get online during the whole time. Actually, the only things I did online was book some hotel rooms through hotels.com and check out possible tourist attractions on the route. In a way it has been very refreshing to abandon my online life and go native for a while. I didn’t seem to miss Eve (or other online activities) much, but it sure was nicely electrifying feeling logging in last night to set up some training.

I can feel jet lag creeping up on me as I’m writing this so it may be a day or two until I get back on track here. But rest assured that you wont escape my ramblings for much longer now. =)

Heading out on the highway

Sorry for not posting much lately, but I’ve been overly busy with the preparations for our month long vacation to USA. Planning and packing for the trip has been time consuming and with the whole family traveling it needs to be done properly.

My Eve time has been limited to organizing for a month long training (BC V) and setting up some R&D jobs to rack in some passive isk while I’m away. Research Project Management is definitely a pricey skill, but I will have four R&D agents working for me before tomorrow. According to my calculations that means about 2M isk per day in datacores. That would make me about 60M during our vacation, paying off the skill book and then some.

But that’s about it for now. I’ll report back to duty when I come home. This is me signing off for October. Fly safe!

EVE: Vigilance and clever people

I tried running a Sansha’s Vigil exploration site yesterday. It didn’t quite work out and I will tell you exactly why that is. The short version is that it’s a damned difficult site, but there are always ways around problems if you know your stuff.

I also found a great new library to help me out with my own market tool. From the makers of Eve-central comes a tool called libevecache and I (am going to) love it! read more »

EVE: Homecomings

Last week was a bit quiet postwise, apologies for that. Preparations for our month long US vacation are speeding up and take more and more of my spare time. But I still got some Eve time under my belt anyway.

My null sec ratting trip came to a conclusion last week and I’ll give you a rundown on the whole experience.

EVE: 0.0

Posted in games on September 16th, 2009 by Roblob – Be the first to comment

I took my first trip to null sec yesterday. For the past few nights I’ve been gathering gear and setting up jobs for my invention and manufacturing pursuits. At the same time I’ve been fitting a Thorax for some null sec ratting and general poking around. I was not entirely sure how well my Gankarax would perform against 0.0 rats, but I was absolutely certain that it was going to be interesting.

EVE: Missions == ISK

Posted in games on September 11th, 2009 by Roblob – Be the first to comment

Well, I’m still running missions for Thukker Mix to raise my standings high enough for a suitable R&D agent. Luckily my agent hands out kill missions almost exclusively (she is internal security) so at least I get to see some bright bangs. My Vexor has no problems churning through the crowd so most of my time goes into looting and salvaging.

I guess I could just blast through the missions if I wasn’t so thrifty. But then I would have missed out on a real treat that my last mission provided… read more »

EVE: Run of the mill

Posted in games on September 8th, 2009 by Roblob – Be the first to comment

Sorry for not posting in a while, but I’ve been RL busy. Family obligations take precedence to Eve. I’ve also been quite knackered in the evenings as our eldest kid just started preschool and this means that I actually have to get up early in the morning. I guess I’ve been stealing an extra hour of sleep in the morning as this new schedule is proving more tiresome than I would have thought.

In Eve I have mostly been running level I & II missions for Thukker Mix in order to get my standings up. It is easy stuff and quite boring as such. I decided I would rather have my R&D agent closer to base after my move so doing the standing jive was required. Luckily I’m now only 0.5 away from getting access to the closest agent so it shouldn’t take long.

EVE: Meta hauling and drones

Posted in games on September 1st, 2009 by Roblob – 1 Comment

I didn’t post much last week, but spent some time updating the exploration site guides instead. I added that Angel Watch run I mentioned  and a low sec radar site called Regional Angel Command Center that I cleared last week.

Most of my week was spent trading and gathering stuff for Penny as I really want to get my ships meta fitted now that I see how much that boosts the stats for such a low cost. I’m also trying to get some more T2 drones out of the factory, but that is proving more difficult than anticipated. The sentry drones require such amounts of minerals that I’ve had some problems getting them without bleeding my account dry.

I did run a low sec mag site named Ransacked Angel Dumped Cargo on Sunday, but that’s about it for the weekends exploration. I’ll go through the run details further on. Yesterday I started hauling all of Penny’s gear to the new home system some 15 jumps away. Hauling sucks. Really.
